Naxos: the surfing paradise for beginners, experienced and cracks!
Naxos is situated in the heart of the Aegean Sea of Greece. Naxos is a windsurfing and water sport paradise for beginners, advanced and cracks! The Flisvos Sportclub offers a unique combination between a perfect flat-water spot in a shallow lagoon and a challenging wave spot.

We are operating two water sport centres just five minutes walking from each other:

The Flisvos Centre

From the marbled courtyard of the Flisvos Surf Centre you reach the wave area situated directly next to our Beach Café. When the wind blows with wind gail 4 to 5, this spot is ideal for slalom and freestyle sailing. With more wind this spot is ideal for wave freaks and certainly one of the best wave spots in Greece. The waves are between 1 and 2.5 meters high, allowing radical jumps and wave riding. From the wave spot you can reach the flat-water spot within five minutes of downwind sailing.

The Lagoon Centre

The Lagoon windsurfing and catamaran centre is situated 500 meters away from the Flisvos Centre and can be reached in a five minutes walk along the Beach. The lagoon is a shallow flat-water spot. It is ideal for beginners in order to learn windsurfing and for intermediate windsurfers in order to achieve a fast progress. The lagoon is a perfect place to enjoy speed sailing in flat-water conditions and to practise power jibes and freestyle moves. Advanced windsurfers can easily access the wave area by passing the reef through a marked passage.

Most of the time the wind blows side onshore from northerly directions (see also the spot-guides Naxos in the German "Surfmagazin", issued 04/96 and 07/98 and 04/2005).

Windsurfing in Naxos

Highest level of safety and the best service at the windsurf stations is guaranteed by our station manager Konstantin Pappas and our surfteam. Our stations are equipped with two life rescue boats, supervision is from 10 am to 7 pm. o'clock. We also offer windsurf-safaris to the spots in the south of the island, driving skill seminars and clinics.

The Flisvos Center The wind at the surf spot is blowing side-onshore from the right creating nice breaking waves and swells, which can reach a height of 2 meters or more. This spot is perfect for jumps and wave riding!

Kite surfing in Naxos

Kitecentre Since the 10th of June the Flisvos Kite Centre in Mikri Vigla is open (situated approx. 18km to the south of St. George Beach and Naxos town in St. George bay at Flisvos kite surfing is forbidden because of the airport). please visit us at our new homepage: You will find a detailed description of the spot in the new kiteboardmagazin (only in german) - see it here as an pdf-file or download it - 4MB - (with friendly permission of Kiteboardmagazin) The reception of the Kite centre, the Flisvos Kite Café with its marvellous view over the spot and a small shop with Beach wear, water wear and Kite hard wear are located in the northern building of the Hotel Orkos Beach (distance to the water approx. 150m). Luciana and Michele (English/French and Italian speaking) are running the Flisvos Kite Centre as well as giving kitesurf courses or renting equipment according to IKO standards. School- and rental equipment is from Best kite boarding, Cabrinha and RRD; available are approx. 35 kites and 15 boards.
Accomodation
The Hotel Orkos Beach is situated in the bay of Mikri Vigla approx. 150m from the Beach and 18km to the south of Naxos town. There are 23 studios (approx. 20-25sqm) in the hotel, which have big and nice terraces, most of them with sea view. The studios are equipped with kitchenette, air condition and TV. An extensive breakfast buffet (08h00 10h00) will be offered in the hotel and the Flisvos Kite Café will have a tasty range out of salads, toasts, sandwiches, fruit juices, cocktails and milk shakes. The Kite Café will be meeting point and bar in the evenings to all Kiters.

The well known Hotel Naxos Beach 1 of the Flisvos Sportclub at St. Georges Beach can be booked either as alternative or in combination to the Hotel Orkos Beach ! In order of the right wind conditions there will be a daily transfer from the Flisvos Sportclub to the Kite Centre and back. For everybody who booked a course the transfers will be for free; for clients renting equipment the transfer will cost 10.- daily (return transfer); for private kiters with own equipment 20.-.

Transportation rental

For private kiters with own equipment we could recommend the rental of a car or a Quad with rack. Pre booking prices are 35.- for a Quad and 45.- for a car in cooperation with Europcar, Included C.D.W., unlimited mileage, delivery and pick-up to the hotel.

Kitespot

The bay of Mikri Vigla has a nice and big sandy Beach! The place to start at the Flisvos Kite Centre is leeward protected by the sandy Beach. All kiters which are not so experienced will end up downwind on the sandy beach and can walk back easily. Baywatch and safety services are guaranteed by the local staff; rescue boat is available.
The spot is suitable to good kiters as well as beginners. In high season (august) it might be necessary to organize courses early in the morning or late afternoon, depending how busy the spot will be.

Rental

Basic condition for rental of kite equipment is an IKO Level 3 licence or a short aptitude test done by one of our kite instructors (for safety reasons we reserve the right not to rent the equipment without any further lessons to guests who failed the aptitude test)

Kitesafaris

On Naxos there is a another very a good Kitesurf -Wave-spot in the north of the island. This spot is only suitable to advanced kiters with experience in the waves. According to a certain request, this safari to Amiti bay (approx. 8 km from Naxos town ) will be organized. Price: 10.- return transfer

During your first hours on the catamaran we want to show you the fascination of catamaran sailing. You get a short introduction on the beach. The main objective of the course is the practice on the water. You will get introduced in small steps to the first basic technique by your catamaran teacher. Basic course 10 hours

In this course you will learn the basics up to the safe control of the apparatus at middle tempo wind. landing/ set sail, safe driving, steering, turns and how to pick and turn over the catamaran after capsizing are taught in practically oriented teaching units. Theory is practice oriented. After finishing the course you get a 20% discount on the rental of a catamaran! Changing course 4 hours

For all those sailers and windsurfers who want to get the feeling of catamaran sailing. After the practice oriented teaching units you will be able to control a catamaran safely at a weak and middle tempo wind. Conditions for the course are: that you have good knowledge of the theory of wind and courses, and plenty of experience in dinghy sailing or at windsurfing. Private lessons for one/two persons

Personal training at every level with maximum two participants. We guarantee a fast learning success. The choice of teaching topics is in your hand. We could e.g.go through topics like the halse, the trapeze driving/sailing or the sailing on just one hull.

Sports on the beach

The sandy beach of St. George's is inviting you. You can choose between relaxing and recovering from the nightlife or you could be active. Beachvolleyball, Aerobic, jogging, water skiing, wakeboarding - and always lots of FUN! Boredom does not exist here Every week there are beach volleyball tournaments!!!

Fitness & Wellness in Naxos

Open Air Fitnessclub
Our new Open Air Fitness club is offering you a wide range of workout classes. Directly located at pool you can improve your fitness level independently from wind and weather. Guided by our experienced fitness instructors you will be using steps, tubes, hand weights and dumbbells. The workout goals vary from the improvement of muscles strength to the enhancement of your endurance and coordination as well as the balancing of body, mind and soul. Accompanied by motivating music every lesson starts with a warming-up, followed by the main part and ending with stretching and relaxing exercises. Each lesson lasts between 50 and 60 minutes. The Flisvos Sportcard enables you to enjoy one free work-out lesson per week. To improve your fitness level you can book some extra lessons. Special rates are possible, if you book 5 or 10 classes in advance.

Step-Aerobic

Step Aerobic is an effective work-out with music for your cardio-vascular system. You will work out on a small platform (step).
The height of the step can be adjusted according to your fitness-level. Through the combination of different steps with arm movements, besides your endurance we will also improve your coordination.

Body-Shape

In this class we are combining 30 minutes of Step-Aerobic with weight training to shape up the most critical parts of your body.

Power Hour

Enjoy a powerful work-out for your complete body. Every participant gets its own barbell and can adjust the weight according to his fitness level. This work-out is proven to be the world's fastest way to get in shape.

Punch and Kick

Punch and Kick is a perfect work-out using movements of material arts. Everybody who wants to reduce stress and to burn calories is recommended to join this class.

Aqua Aerobic

Enjoy the refreshing atmosphere in the pool and get in shape. The pool noodles will lift you up and help you to go easy on your joints.

Yoga

Yoga is teaching us to be in balance with ourselves. By an elaborate system of body postures, movements and breathing techniques Yoga will help our body to recover. Yoga exercises reach every joint for stretching, strengthening and harmonising.

Hiking

Guided hiking tours with the Naxian Stella Stella, our hiking guide, developed an extensive offer of hiking tours over the years, to fulfill your needs. Discover the scenic and cultural attractions of the wonderful island through hikes. It will be an unforgettable and impressive experience! Kourounochori Tour

Price: € 29
Together with Stella you go by taxi to Kouronochori, where the tour starts (approximately 14 km). The walking-tour goes through original villages in the heartland of Naxos . Stella will tell you, how life was in the villages in former times, furthermore, dozens of information will be given about botany and culture. The hiking ends up in Melanes, where you have the opportunity to eat something; afterwards the taxis will bring you back to Flisvos.

Fotodoti Tour

Price: € 29
Taxis will bring you to the church Agia Marina. From there Stella guides you to one ancient fane of Naxos , the Moni Fotodoti. The indescribable panoramic view, also to close-by islands like Donoussa and Amorgos, will always stay in your memory. On narrow footpaths, passing by natural water tanks and riverbeds you will arrive in Apiranthos, the famous marble village. After sufficient time for visitation and refreshment cab drivers will bring you back to the hotel. Distance: about 10 km. Riverbed Tour Price: € 29
The hiking starts in Kinidaros (about 10 km). The walking is mostly alongside the riverbed of Kinidaros. The riverbed offers notable special vegetation, which Stella will explain to you. River turtles will bear you company at the recreation place. In Engares you have the opportunity to eat something; afterwards taxis bring you back to Flisvos.

Moni Tour

Price: € 29
Together with Stella you go by taxi to Moni, where the tour starts (approximately 12 km). In Moni you will visit an old weaving mill; afterwards you pass the fertile Tragea plateau through olive groves to Halki. In Halki you have the chance to visit a distillery. After this you go on to see Potamia where you have the chance to eat something.

Trial hiking

Price: € 15
Stella will lead you to a close viewpoint a wonderful, small monastery, which is spotless white and shimmering compared to the amazing blue sky. There you can watch the twinkling sea and enjoy the fantastic panoramic view. Stella will tell you interesting things and stories she is a real expert in this!

BEACH TOUR

Duration: 3 - 4 hours

We will ride over seldom used roads in the green hinterland of Naxos , view the typical Naxotian Villages and farmer land, learn about the Mediterranean vegetation and enjoy the fantastic view from the hills to the west coast. Continuing we follow scenic ways and gravel roads until one of the most beautiful beaches towards Mikri Vigla. There we will take a break in a cosy tavern before it will go along picturesque streets and absolutely beautiful sandy beaches course to the Flisvos-Sportclub.

HILL AND VALLEY TOUR

Duration: 3 - 4 hours
Price: € 20
The hill and valley tour leads us over asphalt, gravel, donkey roads, uphill and downhill into the wonderful hinterland of Naxos . We will visit the old abandoned monastery of Kalamitsia and the Kouros of Melanes, a 6 meter high unfinished marble statue from the 6th year before Christ that is lying down in a really paradisiacal garden. This tour is very varied and interesting for driving, landscape and culturing.

SOUTH TOUR

Duration: approx. 4 hours
Price: € 20
This tour leads us over asphalt and good fixed gravel roads from Potamia until Sangri, where we will visit the antique Temple of Demeter. We will continue to the south beachs of the island to Agiasos and Pirgaki. Over there we will take a break in an intimate tavern with a view to a wonderful sandy beach to strengthen and maybe to go for swimming (dont forget your swimming stuff). For 25 km we will follow the coasts of Kastraki, Agia Pareskevi, Plaka and Agia Anna towards Flisvos, to show you once more the beauty of the island along white sandy beaches .

COMBI TOUR OF THE SOUTH AND THE BEACH TOUR

Duration: 3 - 4 hours
Price: € 20
This tour is a combination of the south and the beach tour which have very different degrees of difficulty so with this it is also possible for not trained people to see a part of the south tour. We will ride across the villages of Agios Arsenios and Sangri until the antique Temple of Demeter which we may visit. We will follow the gravel road into the south of Naxos until Agiasos and go on to Pirgaki. Here we will have a break in an original tavern with view to a fine sandy beach to take a rest (dont forget your swimming stuff). After recreation we will ride back along the endless white sandy beaches towards Flisvos-Sportclub.

DOWNHILL TOUR

Duration: 4 hours
Price: € 25
This tour is an impressive and concomitant relaxing MTB tour through the various landscape of Naxos . We will master the strenuous height in an easy way: the bus will take us from the Flisvos-Sportclub to the height of approx. 650 m above the sea level to Stavros. From there we will climb up on our mountain bikes and we will ride up to the village Apiranthos and further to the monastery of Fotodotis. There we will stop for a small or maybe longer break in a nice tavern. Afterwards we will ride on an easy pace through the village of Filoti and Halki, back again to the Flisvos-Sportclub.

ZAS TOUR

Duration: 6 - 7 hours
Price: € 30
This special tour will bring us to the highest mountain of the island and the whole Cyclades! We will ride over roads of asphalt through the original villages of Galanado, Sangri and Filoti until the Chapel of Agia Marina which is lying 600 metres above the sea level. Here we will leave our bikes and continuing walking for approximately one and a half hour on a passable road to the top of mount Zas (1001 m.) You will have a unique view overlooking the surrounded islands of the Cyclades. After this unforgettable experience we will follow the same way back to the Chapel of Agia Marina and continue the very easy and wonderful way back. Starting on a height of 600 metres above the sea level we will let our bikes run and follow the road to Filoti, Halki and through the green valley of Potamia until we will reach the Flisvos-Sportclub. If a group prefers to ride the first part of the trip by car (ca. 650 m height) from Flisvos to Agia Marina we will arrange this as well.

MOUTSOUNA TOUR

Duration: 5 - 6 hours
Price: € 30
This tour for experts rides us once across the island to Moutsouna in the east. On roads of asphalt we will ride through the picturesque hinterland and through original villages until the height of 683 m above the sea level. We will go downhill through the former area of emery mining to the small harbour of Moutsouna. After a restful break with a view to the east Cyclades we will step on our way back.

MIRISIS TOUR

Duration: 5 - 6 hours
Price: € 30
This tour is an exceptional candy for trained mountain bikers. We will ride upwards to the height of 885m above the sea level, onto roads of asphalt and gravel to the village of Koronida. On the way we will enjoy the fantastic view over the neighbour islands in the east and the north. We will cross the mountains and the hamlet Mirisis onto dirt roads towards west until we will reach the beach of Abram. From here on we will ride along the west coast back to Flisvos-Sportclub!

Naxos Accommodation

Hotel Naxos Beach 1
The newly designed Hotel Naxos Beach 1 is situated about 100m behind the Flisvos Sports Club and the beach. The hotel is exclusively for the guests of the Sports Club.
Our Sportclub Hotel is located at the end of St. George Beach - only a ten minute walk away from the lively Naxos city with its nice taverns, lovely cafes and good restaurants. The Hotel was renovated in winter and spring 2000 in a traditional cycladic style. The 69 tastefully furnished rooms have all terrace or balcony, air condition, refrigerator, TV, telephone, safe and mosquitonet. The hotel has also a new swimming-pool with poolbar and a beautiful garden. You enjoy breakfast on a our terrace with a magnificent view into the garden. our facilities we offer at the reception: fax- und copyservice, order for taxi, appointments in restaurants, postcard and letter service, information-service, laundry, appointments for massage and phisiotherapy, car- and bike rental.

Rooms in the main building category A

The rooms in the main building are all featured with balcony or terrace with gardenview or poolview. There are double rooms and riple rooms available with single beds ore queensize beds. The rooms are all equipped with aircondition, TV, safe and frigerator.

Rooms in the side building category B

The rooms in the sidebuilding have a rustic furnishing and feature a terrace or balcony with poolview or landview.

Rooms in the side building category C

The rooms in the category C are the same as category B, but balconies and terraces face the street. at the reception you will find hairdryer, coffeemaschine, laundrybag and hotwater-cooker to borrow free of charge.

Flisvos Studios

The redecorated studios are about 80 m behind the Flisvos Sports Club and the beach. They have bathroom with shower, kitchenette and terraces.

There 4 studios in the category B with own garden, one Studio in category C with terrace and our family studio.
The family studio has two separate sleeping rooms with kitchenette, bath with shower and a terrace.
The Flisvos - apartments the best choice for familiys!
All Flisvos apartments are equipped with aircondition, TV, bath with shower and balcony the modern furnished sleeping room is separated from the nice kitchen-living room that have dining table and two couch-beds for the kids.
Two of the apartments have an amazing view to the sea and to the Chora (Naxos town).
