POROS-NEORIA
The islands Spheria and Kalavria were connected with a low
sandy isthmus in which a small canal of 125m. length and 4,80m.
width was opened, in 1877. The Recruit Training Center of the
Navy is located here. While Spheria is an arid rock of a volcanic
origin, Kalavria is verdant in pine-trees. On the way to small
and big Neorio, there are big sandy bays with deep blue waters.
The most beautiful of them is the port of love. After the area
of Aspros Gatos you will come across the Villa Galini. After the
big Neorio you will come across the ruins of the Russian navy
yard in the area where it had been transferred since 1836.

POROS-ASKELI-
MONASTERY of ZOODOCHOS PIGI IN KALAVRIA
Another route from the bridge leads to Askeli, a
pine-clad seaside settlement. The route to the Monastery
of Zoodochos Pigi was the favorite walk of the poet
Seferis. Before the monastery, there is the chapel of
Agioi Anargiri with its beautiful woodcut icon screen.
This monastery, which was under the Turkish protection
and enjoyed many privileges by them, was the meeting
place of the fighters of the Independence War of 1821.
Many leaders of the Independence War from Poros, Psara
and Hydra asked to be buried in the yard of the monastery.
POROS- SANCTUARY
of POSEIDON IN KALAVRIA
The area around the sanctuary was inhabited since
the Geometric era. The worship of Poseidon, in Kalavria,
began during the same era. In the middle of 7th century
BC, the amphictyony of Kalavria was established, having
the sanctuary as a seat. The Doric temple of Poseidon
was built in a wide area, in 520 BC, with limestone
and tracheitis from Aegina. The road from the temple
goes downhill to Vagiona's gulf with a few houses, a
small bay for the boats and a small sandy beach.

POROS-GALATAS-TROIZINA
You will go to the coast across Galatas by a ferryboat or
by the boats that connect this settlement with that of Poros.
Most of the visitors walk to the famous lemon forest where you
can see many hydro-mills. About 9km. west of Galatas, the road
rises to the inland village of Troizina. 1km. outside the village,
between two ravines and under the lemon forest of Troizina, you
come across the ruins of ancient Troizina.
Outside the town, there used to be the sanctuary of Poseidon Fitalmios,
which the inhabitants built to appease his anger. Near this sanctuary,
many statuettes and small objects were found. The temple of Ippolitos
was established in 4thcentury BC and it is the most ancient temple
of Troizina. It is worth visiting the newly built monastery of
Kecharitomeni in the area of Agios Pantelehimonas, 3km. east of
Troizina.
