Peparythos is the other name of Skopelos: the
largest island of North Sporades. Its white houses with red tiled
roofs, its architecture and its natural beauty embellish the Aegean
Sea. In the capital of the island there are many winding small
roads, arches and blossomed gardens. The view of the balconies
is incredible.

If you are ready for the most beautiful holidays
of your life, follow the road that leads to Kastro. It is a good
way to exercise but the most important thing is that you will
be amazed by the landscape and the delicious delicacies.
If you prefer something less tiring, take the road that leads
to Gyftorema. The name comes from the old gypsy settlement that
used to be there. In the small square you will taste the traditional
coffee and tsipouro. In places like the square, scenes from the
everyday life of local people will parade in front of you.

Scenes and pictures of the island can be found in the Folk Museum
Of Skopelos. The house, in which the museum is situated, represents
the style of the architecture of Skopelos while on the inside
there are many tools, plates, needle works as well as many other
things used in the everyday life of the inhabitants. The temple
of Panagias in Pyrgo combines the natural wealth and the human
touch. The church of Christ stands 230 years in the land of Skopelos.
Its icon screen is really impressive as well as parts of the old
Byzantine temple that coexist with the bell tower of the church.
The green vegetation that surrounds the Convent of Evagelismos
is remarkable. This place is offered for a walk that will surely
calm and refresh you.

You will fell the hospitality of the inhabitants
when you visit the Convent of Evagelismos where two beautiful
icons of Virgin Mother are housed there.
There, you will find the chance to see the needle works and all
the hand woven materials that the kind nuns will offer you. Those
of you who decide to climb the 104 steps above the rock, you will
find yourselves in the chapel of Agios Ioannis, where the vastness
of the blue and serenity predominate.

The huge plane trees stand like giants around the Convent of Taxiarches.
It is uninhabited for a long time now but it patiently waits the
visitors to offer them its beauty. The convents and monasteries
are well preserved in Skopelos. All of them are really remarkable
and that is why it is worth visiting them. They are scattered
around in the green landscape of the island while the huge trees
keep them company and offer them their shade.

The Convent of Agia Varvara offers a wonderful
view of the sea and Alonysos. If you did not know that it is a
convent, you could believe that it was a fortress. The high walls
mislead you. Its icon screens dates back to 15th century, one
of the oldest icon screens of the island.
The renovated Convent of Timios Stavros will impress you. What
is really remarkable is its icon screen of 18th century. Moreover,
you will have the chance to see documents written in Turkish and
many hand-works made by the nuns.

The Convent of Metamorphosis, surrounded by
rich vegetation, was built in the 16th century and it contains
books, vestments and many other treasures of that time. Before

be there to open you.
The icon screen of the Convent of Evagelistria is wonderful.
It is covered by gold and it comes from Constantinople while
the icons date back to 14th century.
