Lindos town exist from the 10th century B.C. In its gulf shipping grew due to the creation of the port that is characterized as the most important of this island. The continuous attacks by the pirates, forced the inhabitants to build the Acropolis together with the castle in order to defend themselves. The Acropolis takes up 8.300 sq.m and carries findings of priceless archeological value such as, signs and piers, carved on rock, wall paintings, domed temples, lined pillars and Dorian galleries.
The castle is of very important historical value due to its statues and its signs, as also findings from the Neolithic, Mykinaiki and Archaic era. |
