Paros Tourism: Information about the Tourism in Paros

Excusions in Paros
With Parikia as the capital of the island, Paros - the third in extent island of Cyclades - is situated to the west. One of the most tourist places of the island Parikia, is characterized by whitewashed houses, mansions with high windows, picturesque arches and many shops.

Its most important point is the castle, built in 13th century by French dukes. It is the first thing that someone sees with his/her arrival. In the end of "Mavrogenous" street is the house where the heroine from Mykonos (with origin from Paros) died.

The history of the island is housed in the Archaeological Museum of Paros, next to the high school of Parikia. There, you can find the mosaic Hercules, the Chronicle of Paros, part of which is housed in the Oxford Museum, the statue of Niki and many other findings of the last 6.000 years.

Katapoliani or Ekatontapyliani is the name of the most beautiful and oldest church of Christianity, which stands in a small distance from the port of Parikia.

This well preserved church is the third, in importance, paleochristian monument in Greece after Archiopiitos and Agios Dimitrios in Thessalonica.

The tradition mentions that it took its name because, inside the church, there have been found ninety nine gates. The hundredth gate still remains hidden and it'll be brought to light when the Greeks take back Constantinople from the Turks.

The ecclesiastical art, continues a bit further in the Byzantine Museum that is housed in the precinct of Ekatontapyliani. There you can admire ancient and Christian sculptures, icons of rare art as the 'Crucifixion' of 17th century, Agios Georgios with the spear, the Pantocrator and many other church relics.

A road studded with ancient and Roman monuments leads to the monastery Logovarda, which is celebrated in the name of Zoodohos Pigi. It is a monastery with 30 monks and one of the most remarkable monuments of Paros.

The Cycladic architecture is evident here, thanks to the Catholic of the monastery that rises in the middle of the yard.

The whitewashed steps lead towards the spotless cells and the rooms of hagiographies ,which are decorated with icons made by gifted monks. Before leaving the monastery, you have to see the workroom of bookbinding art. If you want to be transferred to past times and old ages, you have to go to the famous - from a historical point of view - port of Paros, Naoussa.

Surely, its 1,200 inhabitants are proud of the history of their small town which dates back in 16th - 19th century. The inhabitants of Naoussa with their suntanned faces are always willing to offer you tasty delicacies and show you the Frourio ( fort ), ruins of which are still preserved today.

You can enjoy the sense of private beach, in the famous Kolymbithres, where you will not be able to resist the sea.

The road to entertainment has one direction and leads to Agia Anna. The big night clubs promise you moments of insouciance and dance, under the magic of the summer moon. Golden sand, high palm trres and deep blue waters can enjoy in the beach of Agia Irini.

Many people, envy the experience that is offered by a speed boat. For all those that have the opportunity to enjoy it, the three islets of Panteronissi, Tigani and Glaronissi are the ideal destination .

If the idea of wind-surfing fills you with enthusiasm, then the beach of Nea Chryssi Akti, will amaze you. The summer winds there, are ideal for those who love surf and for those that prefer the safety of the sandy beach. The excellent infrastructure and the marvellous facilities, promise you special moments.
