Since then it has been the goal of our team to offer all of our guests the best service and an unforgettable vacation.

The Beach Café

The Flisvos Beach Café is situated right on the beach besides the Flisvos Sports Club.
# The incredible sunsets and the atmosphere will amaze you.
# Our kitchen staff offers for your appetite from snacks to full course meals and several times a week there is the famous barbecue with party night.

The Beach Café is the meeting place for all the windsurfers . Surfvideos from pros and participants are shown every evening. On many days we film ourselves and show the videos in the evening.

Movie evening: We show you the topical surf movies and of course it is possible to lookup to yourselves, because we film!

Naxos - experience the island!

Naxos seems almost like a continent compared with the surrounding islands. The biggest one mesures about 428 km2 - huge for an island but only the half of the city area of Berlin. No other island feature these variety of landscape: copios lowlands, cliffy mountains, silvery green olive groves, milelong golden sandy beaches, dunes like at the north sea. In the middle of the island ranges the high water content plateau Tragea, eastern towers an impressive mountain range, in the North and in the East of the island you find the lonesome, sparsely populated seaside. Almost the common South of the island is entirely unexploited. To go there with a jeep resemble still an adventure trip.

Climate
All of the Cyclades belong to the moderate, subtropical Mediterranean climate. At Naxos rotate hot and dry summers with windy and rainfully but gentle winters. The transition period in spring and autumn are rather short.

Meltemi
The Meltemi appears between June and September. Normally it starts in the late forenoon, increases during the day until 5 and 6 Beaufort and abate slowly until eve, if compensated by a northly land breeze. Betimes it reaches the marks of 7 and 8 Beaufort, then it stays mostly in the same strength all night long and also for the follwing days. In acient world Aiolos, son of Poseidon and dominator of the winds, was made responsible for the Meltemi. Today the mystery is researched: The Meltemi is powered by the compensating stream betwenn the high pressure area over the Balkan and the low over the arabic desert. It blows from the Northeast clockwise into the North Agean, turns there around and storms the other way round over the cyclades. The Meltemi even could be called a Mini-Monsoon.

Flora
In contrast to most of the cyclades is Naxos really green and variegated. Rambling olive groves, densely Macchia and knee-high Phruganga plants define the view. In gorges and dales also cypresses are growing, near the sea Tamarisks and reed. In former times wide forests of oak trees preexisted. But they had been nearly totally deforested - mainly by the Venetians - for the armada or as firewood. Big parts also falled victim to forest fires.

Fauna
The typical residents of an Aegean island you can meet also on Naxos , namely lizards, snakes and innumerable insects. Besides you find of course farm-animals all over the island: goats, sheeps, donkeys, poultry and even dairy cows. In the copios underwater world you will see a variegated sealife, mainly barbs, breams, calamari, squids and lobsters. They are fished all around the island.

Economy
Since the acient world marble is abolished in great quantities, and still today it is one of the most important product for the export. The marble quarries are mainly situated near the villages Moni and Kinidaros. In former times also emery was abolished, an extremely tough mineral, that was used to abrade. The emery from Naxos was widespread in the middle-age.

Mythology
Godfather Zeus is supposed to grown up on Naxos . Here he started his battle of conquest, that let him come to the throne of the gods. And even as sovereign of the olymp he was closly connected to the island of his childhood. Later he felt in love with Semeli, doughter of the king of Theben. However Semeli died after an exiting night of love with Zeus, because no noneternal could survive the look at a god. Zeus took his that way procreated son Dionysos out of the dying body of Semeli and implanted him in is own thigh. Finally the god of wine was raised up on Naxos by three nymphs. Dionysos celebrated on Naxos (at that time calles Dia), the island of wine, his infamous baccanals. The highest mountain of the island therefore is called Zeus.

History
The oldest fossile resords are datet in the 4th century B.C. Many of these pieces has been found in the area of Grotta, in the north of the city of Naxos . Earlier also Thrakians from the mainland immigrated and brought the grape-vine to Naxos . After that the Karer settled on Naxos and the leader gave Naxos its name. Later the Phoenicians inhabited the island followed by the Minoans.
Onto the time of Konstantin the Great (280-337 A. C.) all the cyclades islands were taken over by the Byzantine empire. It left it's marks on the island, particularly with regard to churches and chapels. But during this time the people of Naxos suffered above alle from permanantly pirate agressions. In 1537 the Turkish corsair and admiral Chaireddin Barbarossa captured Naxos. The Cyclades became Turkish. The Turks wasn't iterested in the gouvernance of the island but the more in the taxes that Naxos had to raise every year. Therefore in fact the Venetians kept the political power. Like nearly all of the Cycladic Islands Naxos took part in the Greek independence war against the Turks in 1821. In 1830 Naxos became part of the new nation state Greece.

Journey - important information

Our main arrival day is Friday. Journey with ferry transfer

After arriving in Athens there is an organized transfer to the port. The ferry crossing takes about 3 to 6 hours. Expect a waiting time of several hours at the port.

Arrival with ferry transfer via Athens
After arrival in Athens, you can book an organized transfer to the harbour, or you can take the airport bus.

Normal ferry:
Taxi or bus to the harbour, ferry ride about 7 hours, back with night ferry the night before your flight in a hut for 2/4 persons, category B.

High Speed ferry:
Taxi or bus to the harbour, ferry ride about 3.5 hours, back with a normal night ferry the night before your flight in a hut for 2/4 persons, category B. ARRIVAL VIA SANTORINI OR MYKONOS You can also reach Naxos via Santorini with a connecting ferry ride (about 1-3 hours). With this option you might have to stay over night on Santorini.
Tip:
journey with a connecting flight The Olympic Airways flies daily to Naxos . Please check for your requests the timetable of Olympic Airways. There are only 15 kg luggage allowed!!
Stop over:
If you like we can organize a stopover on Santorini or in Athens for one or more days. Our hotels in Athens are situated near the archeological centre and the famous Plaka. Use our years of experience regarding the specifics of the journey to the Cyclades. Weather

Hotel Naxos Beach 1
The newly designed Hotel Naxos Beach 1 is situated about 100m behind the Flisvos Sports Club and the beach. The hotel is exclusively for the guests of the Sports Club.
Our Sportclub Hotel is located at the end of St. George Beach - only a ten minute walk away from the lively Naxos city with its nice taverns, lovely cafes and good restaurants. The Hotel was renovated in winter and spring 2000 in a traditional cycladic style. The 69 tastefully furnished rooms have all terrace or balcony, air condition, refrigerator, TV, telephone, safe and mosquitonet. The hotel has also a new swimming-pool with poolbar and a beautiful garden. You enjoy breakfast on a our terrace with a magnificent view into the garden. our facilities we offer at the reception: fax- und copyservice, order for taxi, appointments in restaurants, postcard and letter service, information-service, laundry, appointments for massage and phisiotherapy, car- and bike rental.

Rooms in the main building category A

The rooms in the main building are all featured with balcony or terrace with gardenview or poolview. There are double rooms and riple rooms available with single beds ore queensize beds. The rooms are all equipped with aircondition, TV, safe and frigerator.

Rooms in the side building category B

The rooms in the sidebuilding have a rustic furnishing and feature a terrace or balcony with poolview or landview.

Rooms in the side building category C

The rooms in the category C are the same as category B, but balconies and terraces face the street. at the reception you will find hairdryer, coffeemaschine, laundrybag and hotwater-cooker to borrow free of charge.

Flisvos Studios

The redecorated studios are about 80 m behind the Flisvos Sports Club and the beach. They have bathroom with shower, kitchenette and terraces.

There 4 studios in the category B with own garden, one Studio in category C with terrace and our family studio.
The family studio has two separate sleeping rooms with kitchenette, bath with shower and a terrace.
The Flisvos - apartments the best choice for familiys!
All Flisvos apartments are equipped with aircondition, TV, bath with shower and balcony the modern furnished sleeping room is separated from the nice kitchen-living room that have dining table and two couch-beds for the kids.
Two of the apartments have an amazing view to the sea and to the Chora (Naxos town).
