ARNI Batsi is the first area of the island that was touristically
developed. The light blue lines of the horizon and touches
of green is a scene that one could easily find in a painting.
Though long before Batsi was systematically inhabited, settlements
such as Katakoilos and Arni that were in favorable locations,
developed. According to the "Newer Geography" by Filippidi-Konstanda
(1791), Arni was the largest in size village of Andros. The

KORTHIOS BAY Korthios
bay or "gialos"(means seashore in Greek) as the locals like to
call it, or plainly Korthi for the rest of Andros, was like the
other coastal towns a cove for ships that reached this area. Servicing
the trips towards the City (Constantinople) and Smyrna it was
developed as a local commercial and industrial center. In this
the coastal connection with Piraeus, Tinos and Syros helped even
more. It thus concentrated the most active residents of this area
and became the center of life for all the rest too. The visitor
discovers an organized settlement that is uniquely surrounded
by the view of most of the surrounding villages. In the main square,
the market pedestrian zone, the church and school , the good taste
and the affection of the locals are evident everywhere.

The large beach and the windless port
of Agia Aikaterini are available for a swim. From there a few
minute course behind the hill , leads you to the fantastic beach
of "grias to pidima".
The large straight rock rises in the shallow end making it an
easy provocation for the imagination of the locals. The legend
says that some old lady betrayed the under passage - that many
believed existed for the castle - to some conquerors and because
she regretted it , she committed suicide by falling into the sea
, were her body turned into stone. From here a dirt road
from the main road leads to Ekso Rogo. Based on the indications
we go by the riverbed , we turn right and after 1.5 klms we reach
the very beautiful settlement , right at the temple of Panagia
with its fantastic icon holder.
