The emerald waters of the Aegean Sea wash Lesvos with its hot climate and rich mythology and history. It offers wonderful vacations to all visitors. The tour of the island starts from the capital of the island, Mitilini up to the southeast side of Lesvos.

The emerald waters of the Aegean Sea

A city that is built amphitheatrically, around the south port and accommodates unique sightseeing such as the churches of Metropolis with unique architectural interest, wonderful ecclesiastical implements and beautiful icons, the Ancient Theatre, the statue of Sapfus, the Roman aqua duct, the bronze statue of freedom similar with the one in N. York and many museums such as the Archeological the Ecclesiastic and the Museums of Modern Art.

The Byzantine years have left in the city one of the biggest castles, the castle of Justinian, which, every year, welcomes many cultural demonstrations. Picturesque taverns offer traditional snacks while expensive hotels, located in the city, offer all kinds of comforts that the visitor might require.

The city is the starting point of a wonderful and incomparable travel of the island. The beauties of the island are innumerable. The mountainous villages, in plane trees and olive trees and the seaside with clean blue waters are some of the beauties that will charm you.

In the southern side of the city there are many picturesque seaside villages like the village of Varia and Neapoli with graphic country houses, a step away from the beach and the village of Kratigos with the wonderful beaches surrounded by pine trees that welcome many visitors every year.

Clean blue waters

Finally, we reach the green area of the pine-tree beach of Agios Ermogenis and a few kilometers to the north stands the area of Loutra with
the huge olive trees and the spectacular water sources. Going to the north exit of the city we reach Panagiouda, a village with crazy nightlife and peaceful beaches. Following the street, a tropic beach with palm trees stands in front of us. These give an exotic touch to the village of Pamfila.

Following the same route we are led to the area of Thermi, which is surrounded by monasteries such as Agiou Rafail and Eisodia of Theotokou. The area is also famous for the old hotel of "Sarlitza Pallas" and the healing water sources. It is the perfect place to find peace and relaxation. The seaside road of the area leads to the beach of Skalas in N. Kydonia, a wonderful beach that is full of flowers.

The busy scenery of the beaches is continued in Mantamado, with its silver-green beaches of Aspropotamos and Agios Stefanos and the exotic small islands of "Tokmakia" with white sand and blue water.

The view looks like a painting

The road that leads to the north side of the island and crosses the village of Skamia, homeland of Mirivilis, ends in the wonderful village of Petra, where, during the sunset, the red sun is coloring the waters of the Aegean Sea, leaving the visitor wordless. The view, in every place of the island, looks like a painting.

Continuing the road to the north, we come across Molubo, the most beautiful and picturesque place of the island with an architectural carpentry that impresses everyone. The stone country houses, characteristic of the area, are amphitheatrically built and travel you in the past times.

The market with its traditional small shops rich in green vegetation of the plants that climb the white walls, capture the visitors' attention during their afternoon walk. The picturesque ness of the place and the second in size Byzantine castle of the island capture everyone's attention. In 1373, Fragkiskos Gatelouzos arrived in the island to repair and convert it, as it is today. In the beach of the area, the visitor can enjoy traditional snacks and ouzo in the taverns.

Leaving the north side of the island, and moving to the west, we reach Sigri where nature has created a unique view, the famous rock forest, which is a wonderful monument that almost covers the biggest area of the western side of the island. Rock trunks, some standing and others lying in the ground declare the existence of old-trees, which were covered in lava 500000 years ago by Ordumnou volcano.
